Indy Minute - Independent wrestling news recap

Prince Devitt deflected questions about joining WWE in a recent interview thewrestlingmania.com. He commented on it being the right time to leave New Japan and that he doesn’t have immediate plans in America but isn’t ruling it out.

Alongside Prince Devitt rumors are rumblings that KENTA and Kevin Steen will also be joining NXT in the next few months.

The official WWE CM Punk Facebook page posted a WWE.com feature about stars quitting/walking out. Not sure who’s getting trolled – the fans or Punk.

Also in NXT, Aiden English is teaming up with Simon Gotch to form a new tag team, The Vaudevillains. This may just be the ramblings of an indy mark, but this pairing really seems like it’s taking a page from Chikara’s Throwbacks tag team. The Vaudevillains are a bit more old-timey than the Throwbacks but the idea is basically the same.

There are also rumors that a feud between Rusev and Mojo Rawley is allegedly being dropped. It seemed as if something was in the works for the pair, as Rawley interrupted Rusev at NXT Takeover, waving an American flag opposite Rusev’s Russian flag, but was quickly squashed by the Super Athlete.

Ricochet, current Dragon Gate and Dragon Gate USA champion, won the annual NJPW Best of the Super Juniors. He joins Prince Devitt, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit as one of the only non-Japanese wrestlers to ever win the tournament. This comes on the heels of rumors that WWE declined to offer Ricochet a contract following a tryout, for reasons of already having too many small guys they don’t know what to do with.

UFC fighter Tom Lawlor is close to finishing a deal with Ring of Honor to become a regular part of their roster. Lawlor made his debut at War of the Worlds as the manager of the tag team reDRagon.

Former Ring of Honor ‘Hoopla Hotties’ Seleziya Sparx and Scarlet Bordeaux were part of Adam Rose’s Exotic Express crew on the June 2 episode of Raw.

Bully Ray was pulled from Saturday’s House of Hardcore show in Philadelphia by TNA. There’s speculation he was pulled because MVP was injured at an event in the UK recently while others think it’s a sly way to drive Philly and New York fans to upcoming TNA shows, since Bully is offering a free meet and greet for fans with HOH tickets. The real reason seems to be that he was at the Spike TV Guy’s Choice Awards with Velvet Sky, Jesse Godderz and Taryn Terrell in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Matt Cross, also known as MDogg20, was on American Ninja Warrior on Monday night. Cross is the first pro wrestler to run the American Ninja Warrior course. I didn’t watch the episode but I found this news story that says he’s going to be the second alternate for the finals in St. Louis.

The original Sin Cara has a new name in Mexico - Myzteziz. I have no idea how to pronounce it.

CZWs Tournament of Death 13 is this Saturday in Townsend, Delaware. The theme this year is CZW vs Big Japan Pro Wrestling with the first round seeing “Bulldozer” Matt Tremont take on the “Crazy Monkey” Jun Kasai, “Black Angel” Jaki Numazawa against Lucky 13, the “Deathmatch Drunkard” Danny Havoc taking on Masahi Takeda and the “Ultraviolent Beast” Masada against Aero Boy.

PWG announces its 11th anniversary show on July 26, ELEVEN. Newly crowned PWG World Champion Kyle O’Reilly will give Chris Hero a shot at the gold while Adam Cole, Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano will meet in a triple threat match for the number one contendership to the World title. The World’s Cutest Tag Team, Joey Ryan and Candice LeRae, take on The Young Bucks for the PWG World Tag Team Championships in a Guerrilla Warfare match and the Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Trent?, take on the Unbreakable F’n Machines Michael Elgin and Brian Cage for a shot at the PWG tag team titles. Also, Frankie Kazarian will be making his return to PWG and taking on Brian Kendrick.
